トーテムポール

昔から先住民族の話が好きです。ご存知かと思いますがインディアンとかエスキモーという言葉は差別用語にあたるといわれ最近はfirst nationsとかイヌイットと呼ばれています。

Wikipediaでは以下のように書かれています。
The term First Nations can be confusing. Collectively, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples constitute Canada’s Aboriginal peoples, indigenous peoples or first peoples.[1][2] First Nations is a legally undefined term that came into common usage in the 1980s to replace the term Indian band. Elder Sol Sanderson says that he coined the term in the early 1980s.[3] A band is a legally recognized “body of Indians for whose collective use and benefit lands have been set apart or money is held by the Canadian Crown, or declared to be a band for the purposes of the Indian Act”.[4] There are currently over 600 recognized First Nations governments or bands in Canada, roughly half of which are in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.

トーテムポール。その起源は明らかではありません。１８世紀以前のものが残っていないからです。

一度倒れるともう一度皆で立てます。しかし２度目に倒れた時にはそのまま腐ったままにさせます。大地に返すのです。
